Party season is quickly approaching, you guys! One of my favorite things about hosting, besides the lattes, is the moment someone hovers over the snack table and just stares.
Whoever brings the sad plain hummus has to bring two things next time, lol!
That was before the first round of cards even started. Not that I’m keeping score, haha!
Don’t fret if dips feel like a beginner move. They’re honestly the easiest way to look like you tried way harder than you actually did!
Who doesn’t love a table people fight over? Keep on reading for 20 dip ideas the whole table will fight over.
From spinach artichoke to whipped feta and chocolate fruit, there’s something for every kind of gathering. Under each one I’ve added the little details you actually want to know, plus a link to the full step-by-step recipe.
DIP IDEAS FOR EVERY OCCASION
1. Creamy Spinach Artichoke Dip
We’re starting off strong with the classic spinach artichoke.
Warm cream cheese, garlic and a whole bag of spinach get folded together until it’s basically a warm hug in a bowl.
How cute is that little serving dish he always brings it in?
- Bubbly straight from the oven
- On the table in half an hour
- Kids sneak spoonfuls before dinner
- Two cheeses, zero regrets in this house
2. Buffalo Chicken Dip Bowl
There’s no negotiating on that!
Shredded chicken, hot sauce and ranch bake together until it’s basically the inside of a wing without the mess.
He even brings his own celery sticks, just in case.
- The couch snack that starts fights
- Bakes at 375 degrees
- Celery sticks are non negotiable here
- Leftover rotisserie chicken works great
3. Layered Taco Dip Platter
This layered taco dip is the loudest thing on any snack table. Every layer gets its own color and somehow they all belong together.
Refried beans, sour cream, guacamole and cheese stack up like a tiny edible skyline.
I stopped trying to compete after she added a bean layer just to spite me, lol!
- Seven layers of chaos and glory
- Feeds a whole game night crowd
- Chill it an hour before serving
- Scoops best with sturdy tortilla chips
4. Whipped Feta Honey Dip
Whipped feta with honey sounds fancy but takes about five minutes. A food processor does the whole job.
I make this one whenever guests are already ringing the doorbell. It runs into every little swirl and tastes like I tried way harder than I did, haha!
Who doesn’t love a shortcut that looks this good?
- Fancy looking, embarrassingly easy
- Ready in five minutes flat
- Crusty bread does all the work
- Warm honey adds a little kick
5. French Onion Dip Bread Bowl
French onion dip in a bread bowl is proof that presentation matters. Hollow out a round loaf and the crumb pieces become built in dippers.
Caramelized onions and sour cream make the filling taste like the soup version, minus the spoon required.
- The bowl you eventually eat too
- Onions caramelize low and slow
- Sourdough holds up better than white
- Refrigerate overnight for deeper flavor
6. Roasted Garlic Hummus Swirl
Roasted garlic swirled through hummus turns a healthy snack into something people actually fight over. The swirl on top is mostly for show, but it works!
Whole garlic heads roast until soft, then get mashed straight into the chickpeas. I always roast an extra head because I sneak cloves before they even hit the food processor, lol!
- The healthy one nobody suspects
- Roasts for forty minutes total
- Great with carrots or pita chips
- Olive oil drizzle on top always
7. Chocolate Fruit Dip Platter
A chocolate fruit dip platter is basically dessert wearing a party outfit. Melted chocolate in the center, fruit fanned out all around. Strawberries, banana slices and pretzel sticks all work as dippers.
It tastes like fondue without the actual fondue pot, lol!
- Dessert pretending to be a snack
- Melts in the microwave in minutes
- Marshmallows are a must here
- Fruit stays fresh with a lemon squeeze
8. Baked Brie Cranberry Dip
Baked brie with cranberry sauce is the one that makes people think you hired a caterer. It absolutely did not require that!
A whole wheel of brie, a spoonful of cranberry sauce and a warm oven do the entire job. I take credit for this one every single time, no regrets!
This one gets photographed more than the appetizer next to it, every single time. Am I right?
- Looks expensive, costs almost nothing
- Puff pastry wrap is optional
- Any tart jam works in a pinch
9. Garlic Shrimp Tapas Skillet
Garlic shrimp tapas are the small plate that convinces everyone to slow down and share. There’s something about a sizzling skillet that stops conversations mid sentence. If you were hunting for tapas ideas, this one is a keeper!
Butter, garlic and a splash of white apple cider reduce down while the shrimp cooks fast.
I’ve stopped arguing with her because honestly she might be right, haha!
- The skillet that stops conversation
- Crusty bread mops up the sauce
- Lemon wedge on the side always
10. Patatas Bravas Small Plates
Patatas bravas are crispy little potato bites with a spicy tomato sauce on top. This tapas classic never lasts long once it hits the table!
They get fried or roasted until the edges crackle, then smothered in sauce right before serving. I always make a double batch because the first one vanishes before dinner starts.
Who could resist that crispy edge?
- Crispy edges, bold sauce
- Roasts at high heat for crunch
- Smoked paprika does the heavy lifting
- Aioli drizzle finishes it off
11. Spanish Tortilla Wedges Platter
Spanish tortilla wedges are basically a potato and egg pie sliced into party size pieces. They sit at room temperature just fine, which makes hosting so much easier.
Thinly sliced potatoes and onions get folded into eggs and cooked slow in a skillet.
- The potato pie that travels well
- Slices into neat little wedges
- Great warm or at room temperature
- Onions add a sweet edge
12. Smoked Salmon Cucumber Canapes
How elegant are these smoked salmon canapes ideas right now? Cucumber slices replace crackers, which honestly feels like cheating in the best way!
A dollop of cream cheese, a curl of smoked salmon and a sprig of dill finish each little round. I always eat three while I’m assembling them, purely for quality control, lol!
- Cucumber standing in for crackers
- No baking required at all
- Dill sprig adds a fresh finish
- Assembles fast right before guests arrive
13. Caprese Skewer Canapes Tray
Caprese skewers are proof that three ingredients can still look impressive on a tray. Cherry tomatoes, mozzarella balls and basil leaves stack in a repeating pattern. They get drizzled with balsamic glaze right before serving.
This one always disappears first at every dinner party.
- Three ingredients, endless compliments
- No cooking involved whatsoever
- Balsamic glaze ties it together
- Mini mozzarella balls hold shape best
14. Prosciutto Melon Bite Canapes
Prosciutto wrapped around melon sounds fancy but takes about ten minutes total. Salty meat against sweet fruit is one of those combinations that just works.
A toothpick holds each bite together, which makes them dangerously easy to grab by the handful. I’ve eaten six before realizing I skipped the rest of the tray, haha!
- Salty meets sweet in one bite
- Cantaloupe or honeydew both work
- Toothpicks make grabbing easy
15. Grazing Table Cheese Display
A grazing table is basically a giant charcuterie board that took over the whole counter. Cheese wheels, crackers and little bowls of jam fill every gap.
This is the catering ideas centerpiece that makes people forget there’s an actual meal coming later, haha!
I always overbuy cheese for this and my fridge pays the price for weeks. Same!
- The counter takeover everyone photographs
- Feeds a crowd for hours
- Grapes fill every empty gap
- Soft and hard cheeses side by side
16. Mini Slider Catering Station
Mini sliders lined up in a row are the easiest way to feed a crowd without anyone standing in a long line. Everyone just grabs one and keeps moving!
Soft slider buns, small patties and little pickle slices come together fast. I burn at least one batch flipping them too early, every single time.
- No line, just grab and go
- Bakes a dozen at once
- Pickle slice on every single one
17. Dessert Table Cupcake Tower
A cupcake tower turns a simple dessert table into the centerpiece of the whole party. Tiers stack up and suddenly it looks like a wedding cake made of cupcakes.
Box mix cupcakes work perfectly fine here. Nobody checks if you baked from scratch, lol!
- A cake made entirely of cupcakes
- Stacks in under an hour
- Sprinkles hide any wobbly piping
18. Charcuterie Cone Serving Display
Charcuterie cones are the grab and go answer to a full spread. Paper cones filled with meat, cheese and crackers mean nobody needs a plate!
They’re perfect for a standing party where balancing a full board just isn’t realistic. I still manage to drop mine at least once, plate or no plate.
- No plates required at all
- Assembles in a lazy afternoon
- Rolled meats fit best inside
19. Build Your Own Taco Bar
A build your own taco bar solves the problem of feeding picky eaters and adventurous ones at the same table. Everyone builds exactly what they want.
Shells, shredded meat, toppings and salsas line up in a row.
It’s become the go to for our end of summer cookout. Who doesn’t love a good cookout?
- Feeds picky eaters and daring ones
- Warm tortillas in foil packets
- Set out three salsa heat levels
- Rice and beans round it out
20. Elegant Fruit Skewer Display
Last but definitely not least, we have this elegant fruit skewer display. Fresh fruit threaded onto skewers looks like a rainbow standing straight up!
Melon, grapes and berries alternate for the best color pattern. Stick the skewers into a hollowed out melon half so they stand upright on their own.
Sweet, simple and gone within minutes. I can’t!
- A rainbow standing straight up
- No cooking required whatsoever
- Melon half works as the base
- Berries add the brightest color
