Looking for dog halloween costumes with a little personality? Think a tiny bat, a pumpkin with a curly stem or a pirate with a monkey sidekick.

These ideas range from simple back pieces to full outfits, with plenty of cute details worth saving.

You can keep things simple or go all out. Just let your dog set the limits: keep sight, breathing and movement clear, supervise costume time and remove anything that causes distress.

Dog Halloween Costume Ideas Worth Saving

little white ghost

We’re starting off strong with this little ghost. The white covering has openings around the eyes and muzzle, with an orange pumpkin bucket sitting beside it.

I’d borrow the pumpkins for a photo setup, but skip the trailing hem and head covering for your own dog. A ghost design on a fitted dog shirt is another way to try the theme.

pumpkin with a curly stem

How cute is that curled green stem? The orange pumpkin outfit has big green leaves around the neckline and a matching orange hat.

If you love the classic orange-and-green combination, this gives you plenty of inspiration. The oversized leaves are my favorite part.

white mummy strips

This mummy look keeps everything white, with overlapping strips across the body and front legs. The paws and shaggy face still peek through.

For your own version, I’d choose a dog shirt with a mummy-bandage print rather than wrapping loose strips around the legs or neck.

tiny black bat

I am obsessed with this bat costume. The huge pointed ears and scalloped black wings are just too cute next to that tiny face.

You could choose a wings-only version if your dog doesn’t like wearing a hood. The wing shape does plenty on its own.

witch hat and cape

If you are looking for a costume with lots of little details, then this one is for you. The tall black witch hat has wispy black-and-white trim and a pale flower.

I love the white standing collar against the long black cape. For a simpler take, choose a shorter cape without the hat.

red-collared vampire

This vampire cape may just be one of my favorites here. The bright red collar opens out beside the face, with matching red lining showing beneath the black cape.

You really don’t need pretend fangs to get the idea!

orange-legged spider

Is that a little spider with giant yellow eyes? This costume goes all out, lol!

The shaggy black back piece has long black legs with bright orange tufts.

Those cartoon eyes keep the look more silly than spooky. I’d keep that detail if choosing a smaller spider costume.

cobweb mummy look

Here is another mummy-inspired look, but the open white strands give it more of a cobweb effect. They cross the forehead and muzzle before hanging down the chest.

I wouldn’t copy the strands around the face. Put the cobweb pattern on a dog shirt instead, or use it in a backdrop safely out of reach.

pirate and monkey sidekick

How adorable is this pirate pair? The dog wears a black skull-and-crossbones hat with gold-colored edging, while the toy monkey has a little pirate hat of its own.

The red-and-white stripes bring everything together. You could borrow those colors for a simple pirate-themed bandana without the extra props.

little saddled horse

This is one of the funniest transformations on the list. There’s a decorative saddle, a white mane on the headpiece and dark hoof-like covers over the paws.

I especially love the little stirrups hanging at the sides. This one has plenty of costume details to look at!

hot dog in a bun

A hot dog costume on a dachshund? It’s such a cute pairing.

The tan bun shapes sit on either side of the red center, with yellow mustard-style details finishing the look. I’d leave this one just as simple, without a hat.

taco with colorful toppings

The food costumes keep getting cuter. This taco has a yellow shell, ruffled green lettuce shapes and brown filling along the back.

I love the little red and white topping pieces. If you’re choosing a taco look, those colorful details are worth looking for.

yellow-and-black bumblebee

I am obsessed with these little silver-colored wings. The wide yellow and black stripes make the bee theme clear, while the tall antennae add another playful detail.

You can skip the antennae for a headwear-free version and still keep the stripes and wings.

shaggy lion mane

Don’t want a full-body costume? This lion look puts all the detail around the face.

The golden-brown mane has tiny rounded ears tucked into the top, with the rest of the dog left uncovered.

green dinosaur spikes

If you’re looking for a costume with a simple shape, this dinosaur idea is for you. A row of green triangular spikes runs down the back, held in place by visible black straps.

The taller triangles in the middle are my favorite detail. There’s no matching hood or hat here.

bright blue shark

How cute is this blue shark? The fin sticking out from the back and the split tail make it so easy to recognize.

The hood rests behind the dog’s head, showing a cartoon eye and black gill marks. I love that you can see those details without the hood being pulled up.

rocket pack duo

Looking for a matching costume idea? The dog wears a white rocket pack beside a child in an astronaut outfit.

Red, orange and yellow flame shapes hang beneath the pack.

This is a fun way to share a space theme without wearing identical costumes. The dog’s pack is the detail I’d build the pairing around.

special delivery

OMG, how adorable is this delivery outfit? The brown cap and uniform match the little UPS parcel at the front.

The pretend arms make it look like the dog is holding the box. That’s my favorite part of the whole costume.

round glasses and striped scarf

Calling all Harry Potter fans, this look keeps the wizard theme simple. Round black glasses sit above the muzzle, with a red-and-yellow striped scarf hanging down the front.

For your own dog, I’d borrow the scarf colors for a short bandana and leave the glasses off. You can still get that Gryffindor-inspired look.

jack-o’-lantern skirt and bow

Last but definitely not least, we have this cute pumpkin outfit. I love the big black jack-o’-lantern smile on the back!

Green leaf shapes decorate the orange hood and shoulders. The flared orange skirt and spiderweb-patterned bow give this pumpkin a different look from the one above.
