Looking for living room projector screen ideas that still leave room for your books, plants and favorite furniture? These setups include big pull-down screens, simple wall projections and little lighting details worth saving.
There’s some bedroom inspiration and a TV reference too, both noted below.
You can keep things simple or go all out. Start with the wall or opening facing your seats, then take a look at the colors and storage around it.
I especially love the rooms with low bookshelves!
Projector setups worth saving
a blank wall and low cabinets
We’re starting off strong with this big wall projection and a long row of low cabinets. I love the little yellow lamp beside the pale seating.
The potted plant below the picture is such a pretty touch.

Among projector screen ideas living rooms can borrow, this simple arrangement is a lovely starting point. Try using your existing low cabinets beneath the picture and keeping taller decorations to the side.
a screen above sunken seating
How gorgeous is this sunken seating area? The large screen hangs in front of the windows, with pale sofas wrapping around the rug below.
The long line of flames sits beneath the screen here. If you’re considering a similar installation, have the screen placement checked against the fireplace’s clearance requirements rather than copying the photo alone.
books beside the big screen
This room may just be one of my favorites so far. I love the tall column of books beside the black-bordered screen.
The framed faces and red vase below it are so cute.
Try keeping your artwork on the console instead of hanging it in the space you want to use for watching.
a projection above the sideboard
Don’t want a visible black border around your movie? This room shows a picture projected straight onto a pale wall, with books lined up along the sideboard underneath.
I especially love the round white pendant and the arched doorway. There’s plenty going on without covering the whole wall in decorations.
string lights and a hanging screen
How cute is this porch-style sitting room? A white screen hangs beneath the beams, with strings of bulbs crossing the ceiling.
The pale cushions and brown basket-style furniture look lovely together. Borrow the overhead lights for your own sitting area if you like this look, with the option to switch them off during the movie.
orange light and open bookshelves
I am obsessed with the orange light in this room. The little glowing lamp on the right and the sweep of color across the left wall make the otherwise simple setup look so different.
Below the screen, rows of mostly pale book spines fill a long open unit. Keep a few spaces empty if you want to try the same arrangement.
a screen between indoor and outdoor seating
If you are looking for something a little different from a screen against a wall, this one is for you. The screen hangs in the wide opening between the indoor sofa and the seating beyond.
I love the black suspended fireplace beside it. For your own layout, leave a clear route around the screen rather than through the viewing area.
flowers beneath a blank screen
Here’s that book-filled room in daylight, with the screen blank this time. The pink flowers, leaning artwork and little globe lamp are just as pretty without a movie playing.
You don’t have to remove all your decorations to make space for a screen. Try a low console with flowers and framed prints sitting beneath its bottom edge.
low chairs facing the wall
Don’t want to build the whole room around a large sofa? No problem!
This setup has low individual seats gathered around a small round table, facing a wall projection.
The speakers sit low beneath the picture. I’d keep that open space above them rather than adding another row of shelves.
green accents and a book tower
This is another view of the black-bordered screen, but the green details deserve a closer look. I love the patterned rug with the little green drawer unit beside the console.
The fern above the books is gorgeous too. If you try a tall plant display, keep its leaves clear of the picture.

brown seating and glowing shelves
Want to go all out with a movie-room look? This setup has a huge screen, brown seating on several sides and a ceiling dotted with tiny lights.
The illuminated shelves on the right are my favorite part. Try lighting a display shelf separately so you can enjoy that detail without turning on every ceiling light.
a rust chair and oversized mirror
I love this rust-colored chair beside the stacks of pale books. The movie is projected above the sideboard, with a large leaning mirror reflecting it from the next wall.
The little double-globe lamp is so pretty. If the reflection would distract you while watching, try placing your mirror on a different wall.
a bedroom screen below a shelf
This one is bedroom inspiration, but how pretty is that dark green wall? The white screen hangs below a shelf of small plants, with pink details around the room.
For a living room variation, try the same green-and-pink pairing with pink cushions on your sofa and a screen below a plant shelf.
a pull-down screen across the archway
No empty wall facing your sofa? This room offers another idea, with a pull-down screen hanging across the opening to the dining area.
I love that you can still see the built-in shelves beside it. If you try this placement, check that the lowered screen leaves another clear way between the rooms.
a black table and everyday displays
This closer view of the book-filled room is such a good reminder that your screen doesn’t need an empty room around it. There’s a fan, a watering can and a little potted plant on the console.
The black curved coffee table is my favorite detail here. It looks so good beside the tall book display and narrow mirror.
a tv in a slatted divider
Here’s the TV reference mentioned above, rather than a projector setup. The TV sits in a slatted divider, with a bed behind it and a small sitting area in front.
I love the row of plants above the TV. Borrow that mix of tall and little plants for a display beside your own screen.
pale seating and a wall projection
If you love neutral rooms, this one is for you. The wall projection sits above low open shelves, with pale seating and long beige curtains around it.
I especially love the stacks of floor cushions. Try a few beside your sofa if you want to bring that same casual arrangement into your room.
a hanging screen beside the fireplace
This is another screen across a room opening, but the surrounding details are a little different. I love the rounded white chair beside the fireplace and the darker chair with its slatted back.
The dining table stays visible behind the screen. A retractable setup is worth considering if you’d rather not dedicate a whole wall to movie night.
small tables around the sofa
Here’s another look at the neutral room above. This time, take a look at the little tables beside the seats.
You don’t have to keep everything on one large coffee table.
The round table in front holds a snack bowl while the central tables hold glasses and another bowl. Try spreading those surfaces around your own seating area.
an orange glow below the picture
Last but definitely not least, we have this simple wall projection with orange lighting underneath. I love the round floor lamp beside the knotted cushions!
The tall arched mirror and curved lines in the rug are pretty details too. Keep your own decorations low if you want the picture to have this much clear wall space.
