Looking for dresses for women in late 30s that you’ll actually want to wear? Think black wrap styles, little floral prints and a gorgeous red mini.
There’s plenty to choose from here, whether you love a simple outfit or want something a little dressier.
You can keep the accessories minimal or bring in statement earrings and patterned boots. These pictures also include three trouser outfits alongside the dresses, so there are a few ideas for days when you want something different.
Pretty dresses and outfit ideas worth saving
black wrap and gold heels
We’re starting off strong with this gorgeous black wrap-style dress. I love the V-neckline and the long skirt opening at the front.
The gold-colored sandals and little clutch are so pretty together.
Keep the hoop earrings if you want to follow the same simple accessory combination.
white dress with a waist tie
If you are looking for something simple to put together, this one is for you. The white shirt dress has a pointed collar, large chest pockets and a long waist tie.
Pair yours with a brown shoulder bag like this one. A little pendant necklace is all I’d add at the neckline.
black dress and taupe blazer
I am obsessed with this black dress and oversized taupe blazer. The layered gold-colored necklaces look so pretty above the V-neckline.
Try black ankle boots and a dark brown bag to follow this outfit. Push the blazer sleeves up a little to show your bracelets.

tiny flowers and a side bow
How pretty is this floral maxi? The little pink flowers cover a dark blue background, with a matching bow tied at the side.
I especially love the short cap sleeves. If you want to bring another color into your accessories, try a pale pink bag to pick up the flowers.

camel sweater and cropped jeans
This picture is a jeans outfit rather than a dress, but the layered collar is worth a look. A striped shirt peeks out beneath the camel sweater at the neck and cuffs.

The cropped blue jeans have frayed hems above pointed brown boots. Keep the gold-colored bangles if you want that same little extra detail.
bright green and gathered details
This green dress may just be one of my favorites here. I love the gathered waist and the curved, overlapping hem.
Those fine wavy lines make the solid color a little more interesting.
Try small gold-colored earrings if you want to leave most of the attention on the dress.
striped dress with puff sleeves
How cute is this? The stripes run across the gathered bodice, then change direction on the puff sleeves and full skirt.
The square neckline is my favorite part. Finish yours with white slide sandals like the ones here.
blue overshirt and black trousers
Here’s another trouser outfit rather than a dress. The oversized blue shirt sits open over a white top and cropped black pants.
I love the chunky black sandals with this combination. If you want to try it yourself, leave the shirt untucked and keep the top underneath simple.
camel dress and black accessories
Don’t want to go all out with prints? No problem! Try this camel dress with a black belt, pointed pumps and a structured black bag.
The small notch at the neckline and three-quarter sleeves give you a few pretty details without adding any pattern.
navy dots and embellished heels
The polka-dot fans are going to love this! White dots cover the navy dress, with puffed sleeves and a long skirt completing the look.

Those pale embellished sandals are so pretty. Try a little black chain-strap bag like this one if you want to dress it up.
pinstripes and a narrow belt
If you’re looking for a dress without lots of extra details, go with this dark pinstriped style. The sleeveless cut, round neckline and narrow belt keep it simple. I’d add black pumps for a work outfit.
black mini with a flared skirt
I am obsessed with this little black dress. The fitted waist and flared skirt are so cute together, especially with the long sleeves.
The outfit stays black from the sunglasses to the tights and chain-strap bag. Keep that same combination if you love an all-black look.
green dots and a halter neckline
This is another pretty polka-dot dress, but it’s a little different from the navy one above. I love the gathered halter neckline and the bow at the waist.

The skirt dips lower at the back, with white sandals showing underneath. Plus, there are pockets!
burgundy dress and dotted tights
Want a different way to wear a strappy dress? Try layering it over a black long-sleeve top like this burgundy look.
The dotted tights are my favorite part of the outfit. Black lace-up boots keep the styling a little less dressy than heels would.
off-shoulder top and dark jeans
This one is a top-and-jeans combination, not a dress. I love the gathered black neckline with the wide-leg charcoal jeans.
The square gold-colored buckle and white bag are lovely finishing touches. For a dress version, you could look for a black style with a similar off-the-shoulder neckline.
leopard print and white sneakers
If you love a printed dress but don’t want to wear heels, this one’s for you. The long leopard-print dress is paired with white sneakers and a short black biker jacket.
Keep a small black bag like the one here. There’s already plenty of pattern in the dress.
gingham and big black buttons
How adorable is this gingham mini? The big black buttons down the front are such a cute detail.
The sleeveless dress has a round neckline and a skirt that flares out from the waist. Try a large tan basket-style bag and stacked bangles to follow the same look.
black midi and patterned boots
Don’t want to add a print to your dress? Put it on your boots instead!
This black long-sleeve midi is paired with patterned tights and black-and-white pointed ankle boots.
I love the bright decorations on the toes. They’re a fun little extra alongside the quilted black bag.
red ruffles and a shoulder bow
Last but definitely not least, we have this gorgeous red mini dress. I am in love with the one-shoulder neckline and that big bow at the upper arm.
The ruffled hem adds another pretty detail. I’d keep the jewelry small, like the fine necklace and bracelets shown here.
