Looking for funny face paint ideas that go beyond a little nose and whiskers? Think giant yellow eyebrows, a frog around your mouth or a whole watermelon across your chin.
These looks include colorful animals, cartoon faces and a few illusions worth a second look.
You can keep things simple or go all out. I especially love the designs that turn your own smile into part of the picture.
Pick a favorite to show your face painter, or save a few details for your next costume.
Playful face paint looks worth saving
yellow brows and mustache
We’re starting off strong with this super cute Lorax-inspired face. I love the huge yellow eyebrows and matching mustache.
The little orange nose sits right between them.
Keep the black lines through the yellow if you want that same shaggy cartoon look.
round glasses and freckles
Don’t want to cover your whole face? No problem!
These painted round glasses, brown freckles and red lightning bolt give you a playful Harry Potter-inspired look.
I’d keep the frames big and bold like the ones here. You don’t need lots of extra decoration.
pink pig with long lashes
How adorable is this pig face? The big pink snout is my favorite part, but those painted lashes are a close second.
The pointed ears sit up on the forehead while little curved lines extend the smile. Ask for those details if you want the same sweet expression.
red nose and rosy cheeks
If you are looking for a classic clown face, this one is for you. A bright red nose, round pink cheeks and high black eyebrows make up the look.
The red mouth stretches past the lips with a little dot at each end. That oversized blue bow is a fun costume addition too!
watermelon chin
Is that a whole watermelon slice across the chin? This one goes all out, lol!
The pink center has black seeds scattered over it, with a white-and-green rind following the lower edge.
I love how the slice sits just below the open mouth. Keep that placement if you want to try the same food-themed illusion.
curly mustache and joined brows
What makes face paint ideas funny? Sometimes it’s a huge joined eyebrow and a mustache with curled-up ends.
This look has both, plus a little painted beard on the chin.
The white strokes through the black brows and beard are worth keeping. They make the painted hairs easier to see.
three blue eyes
This is one of those looks you have to look at twice. There’s a blue eye painted on the forehead, with two more over the closed eyelids.
I love the little lashes around the extra eye. For any eyelid design, use only products specifically labeled for that area.
white fringe and square glasses
If you are looking for a face full of cartoon details, then this one is for you. There’s a painted white fringe, bushy eyebrows and a wide gray mustache.
The oversized square glasses may just be my favorite part. Add a hat to your own version if you want to follow the costume idea too.
upside-down face illusion
Wait, which way up is this face? The pink mouth on the forehead and hair gathered across the lower face make this such a fun upside-down illusion.
The wide-brimmed hat adds to the disguise. Save this one if you’d rather play with a whole costume than just painted details.
villain brows and pointed beard
These eyebrows mean business, haha! The tall black arches, sweeping mustache and pointed beard give this look a cartoon villain expression.
Unlike the curled mustache above, this one tapers into long points across the cheeks. I’d keep those exaggerated ends.
frog around the mouth
I am obsessed with this little green frog. The painted eyes sit beside the nose while the wearer’s red lips become the frog’s mouth.
The tiny feet below the smile are so cute. Don’t leave those out if you’re asking for this design.
stacked ice cream scoops
How cute is this melting ice cream cone? Pink, yellow, brown and green scoops stack up the side of the face, with little pink drips beside the cone.
I love the pink hearts on the forehead too. You could switch the scoop colors to match your own favorite ice cream.
little blue shark outline
Don’t want to go all out and want something super simple? This blue shark outline keeps the design to one cheek, with no color filling the middle.
For a sillier variation, you could ask for a tiny eye and an exaggerated tooth. The version here leaves those details out.
pink bunny nose and whiskers
I love this little pink bunny nose with the long black whiskers. The pink lips and rosy cheeks keep the whole look sweet.
Pair your face paint with oversized bunny ears like these if you want to take it a step further. The bent ear is especially cute.
sloth across the forehead
This sloth may just be my favorite one so far. Its smiling face sits in the middle of the forehead, with long arms reaching down beside the eyes.
The little pale claws finish it off. You get a whole animal design without covering the mouth or most of the cheeks.
heart-eyes emoji
Bring your favorite emoji into your costume with this bright yellow face. The red hearts surround the eyes while a big black smile stretches around the mouth.
I’d keep the rest just like this. Those three colors already give you plenty to work with.
round eyes and a red nose
How funny are these oversized white eyes? The black face, bright red nose and little forehead tuft make this look like a cartoon character.
The gray patch around the mouth has a tiny black mark in the middle. Together with the huge eyes, it gives the face such a surprised expression.
dog face with dark eye patches
The dog fans are going to love this! Dark patches surround the eyes, with a white stripe down the forehead and a white muzzle around the mouth.
The tongue-out pose adds the silly part here. Keep the painted black nose if you want to follow this look.
blue shark smile
This is another shark idea, but it’s a little different from the outline above. I love how the white lips become the shark’s huge grin.
The tail sweeps up one cheek while a blue fin sits on the nose. Those narrowed painted eyes give this little shark so much attitude.
blue bunny with big teeth
Last but definitely not least, we have this blue cartoon bunny. I am obsessed with the bent painted ears and those two big front teeth!
The white muzzle has tiny black whisker dots, with a black nose above it. Ask for the forehead tuft too if you want the same tousled little character.
